...import tuners rejoice. let the hating begin. well, it's been going on for some time, now we just get to hear it from ignorant, US Muscleheads AND deep-pocket, opinionated Euro-ultimate driver wanabees.

    Good news today, great show.

Hearing "Austrailan musclecar-wars" makes me visualize that its totally like Mad Max down there in Aussieland.

I was planning on making an 'another GT-R story" joke in my comment, until you called yourselves out on it!

Nurburgring lap time wars amongst manufacturers sounds fun. Im rootin for the Vettes of course though the Nissan sounds like itll be pretty tough to beat.

Gook Luck in the Webby's, FLD/NNN

Well it is about time, thrity years on a Japanese car finally gets on top of the ring board. Ok that is one for the tuners and 18273187234625973497598 for the rest of the world...

Hell of a car none the less, but one victory does not prove dominance.

As for the Spec-v, I mean seriously how many flavors of the car are there now? 5? 6? It is almost as bad as the 8billion versions of the Mustang. v6, v8, gt, kr, hurst, saleen stages 1,2,3, then multiply by 2 to add the drop-top and that is all I can think of.

  • Plan. b (guest) wrote on April 14, 3:04 pm

It should be called the GT-R V-Spec

and the V stands for Victory for those that don't know.

  • richierich (guest) wrote on April 14, 3:26 pm

-think the gtr is going to spank the corvette......

  • TxMike wrote on April 14, 4:01 pm

    FG Falcon GT FTW!!!

Too bad Ford US doesn't have the cajones to bring the AU sedans here to compete against the Holdens (Pontiac G8).

  • swinglow33 wrote on April 14, 4:02 pm100 Award

TestSHoot, you forgot the Bullett too. 315hp, C'mon. That engine should be producing 400 at least. I passed one up on the way back home from work. lol

Between the GT-R and ZR-1, I'd go with the GR-R. I can't wait until the R8 Diesels. My money says the Audi R8 diesel will best the 7minute, 20 seconds on the ring.

  • Nick Thomas (guest) wrote on April 14, 4:36 pm

The GT-R needs to be shut up and shut down, and i belive the ZR-1 can do just that.

  • supramike wrote on April 14, 4:36 pm100 Award

yeah, the spec-v is gonna win out, ZR1 stands no chance.

  • Nick Thomas (guest) wrote on April 14, 4:47 pm

On another note the GT-R got its prized TWIN TURBO V6 idea from non other than an AMERICAN MUSCLE CAR , the Buick GNX, a Turboed V6 that was the fastest production car ever built in the 80's. So if your thinking the heavy beast of a Japanese POS thats been twin turboed is really somethin new and special , you'd be mistaken. Also the MAIN DEAL WITH THE GT-R is the fact that it has a COMPUTERIZED "SEMI-AUTOMATIC" Manual SHIFTER that TIMES EACH SWITCH NEARLY PERFECTLY, where as THE CORVETTE ISNT DRIVEN BY WEENIES and is SHIFTED BY HAND , NOT FINGER like the GT-R.

I belive this is all that needs to be said , so why dont you import tuners shut up cause i will shut you down.

    -Nick Thomas

p.s.: psst The GT-R's owner manual ... look at it and youll see why you tuners will hate it.

Hey plan b. , guess what it should be called the ZR-1 , because 1 stands for #1 for the morons like you.

some one needs to comprehensively test the Nissan GT-R vs. the Porshe 911 Turbo vs. Chevy Corvette ZO6

  • Mutley wrote on April 14, 6:09 pm

The ZR1 will not beat the GTR, let alone the V Spec.. Its AWD system will beat the High powered RWD in the Ring.

  • craiglieberman (guest) wrote on April 14, 6:15 pm

Gotta disagree with Nick here...the GT-R shares no commonality with the Buick GN other than it has six cylinders.

    Differences:
    The GT-R can turn...
    The GT-R will still be running after 50,000 miles;
    The GT-R will never be offered with hubcaps or a wood grain dash in any platform-variant;
    You'll never see a soccer mom in a GT-R.

Yes, Corvettes are fast cars...I know...I pass them all the time. And if you think shifting by hand is quicker than a computer or somehow equates to being more manly, I think you mean that driving a true stick shift is a more visceral experience. Probably true, but you can't argue how fast the GT-R is. Incredible.

  • CharlieBoy (guest) wrote on April 14, 8:44 pm

WOW! thats a nice vett... but thats also a nice v-spec... so the GT-R already cost $80K... so does that make the V-Spec about $100K? I wouldn't be to surprised hahaha

The Godzilla is Legendary, in its own right... But if watching clips of the Nurburging run the car could have lowered its time, I believe with a little more candid attention to the exit speeds and composure of the driver. Now the Spec-V1,2,3... to come is going to take this technically advancement to heights no one can consciously understand... The question as an engineer is how is this possible, the laws of physics are being challenged... bent if ask me. So do I believe the ZR-1 has a chance in wet or dry pavement I think not.

"Too bad Ford US doesn't have the cajones to bring the AU sedans here to compete against the Holdens (Pontiac G8)."

They saw the GTO... Ford isn't dumb. People scream that they want cars like this (like they did for the Monaro) then once it gets here nobody buys them. I love my poor GTSlow, and I get compliments on it all the time, but the public as a whole hated it, apparently. I just call it my 12 second Cavalier.

The ZR1 and Spec-V will be close. The regular GTR was 4 seconds quicker than the Z06 with less power and A LOT more weight. The Spec is a little lighter with a little more power, and the ZR1 is no lighter but with A LOT more power. Given all that I think the GTR will win out. I love the Corvettes (and would MUCH rather have one that that glorified 350Z) but Nissan just through more technology at the GTR than the Vette can handle, I think. But the ZR1 will shine where it counts... the highways of Central Florida on Youtube haha.

  • GTslO (guest) wrote on April 15, 2:58 am

"than that" and threw. I suck at typing.

  • Fantasma (guest) wrote on April 15, 11:22 am

I love imports as much as i love vettes. They both are great machines. Both of these vehicles are doing what cars that cost double and even triple. So i give credit to GM and their ZR-1. For the GT-R with a 3.8 six to match and out do V8s, V10s, and even V12s is mind blowing i think and for 72K dollars. Yes the ZR-1 might beat the GT-R. but it cost 100K. Yes the 09 911 turbo will beat the GT-R but thats 200K.

Now about the manual shifting. Almost every high end performance car (lambo, ferrari, bugatti, etc ....) they don't have manuals. they have the tiptronic transmissions. how come the zr-1 does not have one? budget maybe.

  • MaYo wrote on April 15, 12:30 pm

I love all cars of all sorts...Im not rootin for either the 'Vette or the GT-R but I love technology so I go for the GT-R on this.....that and I'm tired of "there is no replacement for displacement"....may be true, just not in this case...

@ GTslO : I know what you mean about the general populations reaction to the GTO. My '06 has been called a Grand Prix so many times that I just go with it. I had to disavow my Ford blue blood and go to the General to get my Aussie muscle sedan fix. I'm happy, but the FG Falcon is nice!

  • swinglow33 wrote on April 15, 4:23 pm100 Award

Just one more correction to Nick Thomas, the Buick Grand National came with just 1 turbo. Albeit a massive one, but 1 non the less.

  • nataku (guest) wrote on April 16, 5:04 pm

the base gtr already beaten the newest zo6 and the zr1 ring time of 7.42, the spec v model recently did a time of 7.25, thats almost 3 secs faster than the zonda club F. No way in hell can the new zr1 beat that. By the way, the gt2 laped it in 7.32, no where near 7.25.
